MVCC - Activity Programming
Activity Programming at Mount View Care Center is one of our number one focuses because we know that “activities” are what makes life worthwhile. Our goal is, and has always been, to provide high quality, person centered, activities that satisfy both individual needs and the popular consensus.
Mount View Care Center houses seven individual units: two traditional nursing home units, two rehabilitation units, and three Dementia Care units. Each unit has its own Activity Therapist in charge of planning and implementing specialized activity programs. Some of these programs include:
Life/Work Activities
At our facility, we realize that each resident coming to live in our facility wants to feel purposeful. We find that by knowing the resident’s history we can plan activities that revolve around that sense of purpose. For example, many of our female residents were housewives; therefore, we would provide those residents with activities such as table setting, laundry folding, and helping with meal preparation.
Leisure Activities
These activities are focused on providing the resident with entertainment and social interaction. These activities are by far the most popular groups at our facility. Bingo, music-related activities, games, pet visits, and recreation are just some examples of daily groups we provide. Our facility also provides our residents with a number of community outing activities including going to sporting events such as the Wausau Woodchuck’s baseball games, the Wisconsin Valley Fair, school plays, restaurants, shopping, etc.
Spiritual Activities:
We know the importance of religion to the generation we are currently serving. Therefore, we provide many opportunities for spiritual expression including separate services for Protestants, Catholics, and non-denominational religions, daily devotions, rosary, bible study groups, and a number of other spiritual activities.
Education/Learning Activities
We also strive to help our residents continue to learn new skills and keep educated. Several units have computers available to the residents complete with internet access. Current event groups help residents keep up to date with local and national news, politics, etc.
Sensory Stimulation Activities
These activities focus on the five senses including exploring familiar smells, movements, textures, sights, sounds, and tastes and are geared more at residents in the end stages of life. In addition to providing daily sensory stimulation activities for appropriate residents, our facility also houses two multi-sensory rooms. These rooms are designated for intimate sensory interactions and use the latest in sensory equipment.
