Mount View Care Center has implemented Person Directed Dementia Care to improve quality of life for people with Alzheimer’s and related Dementia. This “new” approach is to plan for each person with Dementia individually so that we can have the best possible outcome by meeting their needs. Care is sentered on the abilities, emotions and cognitive capacities of the resident.
Important Components of Person-Directed Care include:
  • Meet the Persons’s Core Psychological Needs
  • Recognize all Behaviors are meaningful Communication
  • Know the people with Dementia
  • Teach staff to have fun, be emotionally available
  • Change the language of care
  • Change care planning—involve everyone
To add to the Dementia Care Programming, several Recreational CNA positions have been created. These individuals facilitate several activities daily and reduce the incidents of difficult behaviors, decrease the number of falls and improve the overall quality of life.
When we see eye contact, a head turning toward a sound, toes or fingers tapping to music and laughter, we have made a difference and we have provided true quality of life.
