Community Aquatic Programs*

Aquatic Physical Therapy

Aquatic physical therapy is a program for individuals with a wide range of diagnoses performed in a one-to-one session with a licensed physical therapist under the direction of a physician.

The buoyancy and warmth of the water decreases the effect of gravity and helps to restore function with movements which otherwise may be painful or hard to perform. Therapy is geared toward increasing range and strength where needed, with improvements in body mechanics enabling the patient to advance to land activities at a much faster rate.

Adult and Pediatric Aquatic Physical Therapy provides an opportunity for persons with injuries or disabilities to experience movement that might otherwise be painful, difficult, or impossible on land. General goals include increasing range of motion, gait training, cardiovascular fitness development, and increased activity tolerance.

Hours: Arranged by appointment

Fees: Reimbursement by Medical Assistance and many insurance plans.
