What is an OWI Assessment?

Wisconsin law states that any driver who has been convicted of an OWI (operating while intoxicated) offense must receive a drug or alcohol evaluation. You must contact a state-approved assessment facility within 72 hours of your conviction. During the assessment, a substance use professional will develop a driver safety plan based on the findings. The final report is submitted to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will determine whether or not the person’s driver’s license can be returned.
