Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day: Supporting Youth Through Connection, Care, and Resources

Mental Health

Today is National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day, a nationwide observance recognized by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to bring attention to the mental health needs of children and young people. For nearly 20 years, the day has focused on raising awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging access to support and care.

According to SAMHSA, children and young people across the country are experiencing an unprecedented mental health crisis, with increasing rates of anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. An estimated one in five youth experiences a diagnosable mental, emotional, or behavioral disorder, yet many do not receive the help they need.

Mental health plays a critical role in a child’s overall well-being. Positive mental health supports healthy development, learning, relationship-building, resilience, and emotional regulation. Early support, intervention, and open conversations can make a meaningful difference for children and families navigating mental health challenges.

At North Central Health Care, we are committed to supporting children, adolescents, and families throughout North Central Wisconsin with compassionate, accessible mental health services and resources.

At North Central Health Care, we want to emphasize the importance of prevention, early intervention, family support, and access to crisis resources such as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, which provides 24/7 support for individuals experiencing mental health distress.

Mental health matters at every age, and together, through awareness, support, and access to care, we can help children and young people build healthier futures.
