What to Do if You or Someone You Know Is in a Mental Health Crisis

What Is a Mental Health Crisis?

A mental health crisis can look different for everyone and it doesn’t always mean someone is in danger of hurting themselves. For some, it may involve intense anxiety, panic attacks, or a sudden feeling of hopelessness. For others, it may mean confusion, erratic behavior, or being unable to perform daily tasks.

A crisis can occur when emotions or situations become overwhelming and a person feels they’ve lost control. You might notice warning signs like:

  • Withdrawal from family and friends

  • Extreme mood changes

  • Talking about wanting to die or disappear

  • Increased use of alcohol or drugs

  • Unexplained anger, fear, or sadness

If something feels off trust your instincts and reach out. A crisis doesn’t have to reach its breaking point before you ask for help.
